Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project scientists indicated in December that the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season has the potential to be quite active. We expect to see approximately 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes occur during the 2011 hurricane season. These numbers are based on the average of our statistical model, our analog model and qualitative adjustments and insights. This forecast is based on an extended-range early December statistical prediction scheme that utilizes 58 years of past data.

The list below contains the names of the hurricanes predicted for SW Florida. A line through the Storm means it was a non-event "locally" for which we are all grateful. The other storms, when applicable, will have their own links to our photos of the events. For information during a storm please click on Collier County Emergency Management, NOAA, Satellite Link, StormPulse, Weather Underground or AccuWeather In the event of a serious disaster, the Red Cross provides a site that allows you to verify that family members or friends are safe. My hope is that we never need to access this site.
